General Fusion
General Fusion is transforming the way the world is energized with a practical path to commercial fusion energy.
Founded in 2002, by physicist Dr. Michel Laberge, today General Fusion has more than 160 employees, and a global network of government, institutional, and industrial partners.
The Company is developing utility-scale fusion power using Magnetized Target Fusion (MTF) technology and working toward its goal to demonstrate and commercialize this new clean, safe, and economic concept by the end of the decade.
General Fusion’s machine is a ground-up approach designed to enable a commercially viable power plant. Electricity is generated by pumping hot liquid metal through a heat exchanger to heat water, which then drives a steam turbine. General Fusion power plants will also be modular, allowing multiple units to energize large cities or heavy industry.
General Fusion is supported by a global syndicate of energy venture capital funds, industry leaders, and technology pioneers, together with broad support from the governments of Canada, the United Kingdom, and the USA.
In late 2021, the JIMCO Technology Fund made its second strategic investment in the future of fusion energy, participating in General Fusion’s transitory financing Series E round. This continues the ongoing commitment by the Jameel Family to technologies that have the potential to deliver a truly sustainable energy future for all.
General Fusion is headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, with locations in London, UK, and Oak Ridge, Tennessee, USA. Its world-class management team is aligning economic and technology benefits with markets for energy and decarbonization demands.
General Fusion has been recognized globally for its work in clean energy technology, and is a member of the Cleantech Global 100 (2014, 2015, 2016/17) as well as the recipient of numerous Canadian and international cleantech awards. In 2022, General Fusion was named to the 2022 Global Cleantech 100 – a prestigious, peer-reviewed list of top companies in cleantech.

Christofer Mowry joined General Fusion as its Chief Executive Officer in 2017, bringing global energy industry leadership to the company during the important transition from lab-scale research to the pilot plant demonstration of its technology.
